China's independent research and development of methanol to olefin s-mto technology has made remarkable achievements

according to the news from Sinopec Zhongyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd., the methanol to olefin ethylene raw material route transformation demonstration project with a total investment of 1.4 billion yuan, a design capacity of 600000 tons/year, and a target product of 106000 tons/year of polymer grade ethylene and 99000 tons/year of polymer grade propylene has entered the stage of equipment installation and commissioning, and will be delivered in July. This means that China's independently developed coal to olefin process s-mto technology has stepped into the scale of industrial development, and it also marks that Sinopec's long-term industrialized single route of relying on light hydrocarbon naphtha cracking to ethylene as a promising packaging material for long-distance transportation will become history

the s-mto process technology adopted by Zhongyuan ethylene is jointly developed by Sinopec Shanghai Petrochemical Research Institute, Sinopec engineering and Construction Corporation (SEI) and Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical Company, with independent intellectual property rights. This technology is very different from the d-mto technology developed by the Dalian Institute of physics and chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which was previously adopted by China Shenhua Group, and the industrial unit of methanol to olefins via dimethyl ether, which was constructed and put into operation in Baotou, in terms of oil catalytic cracking and other processes

it is reported that after the transformation of this resource substitution demonstration project, Sinopec Zhongyuan Petrochemical Co., Ltd. can adjust the structure of cracking raw materials of light hydrocarbons and naphtha to that of light hydrocarbons and methanol, and finally achieve an annual output of 300000 tons of ethylene, 260000 tons of polyethylene and 170000 tons of polypropylene

the relevant person in charge of Sinopec new energy office told that with the development of ethane cracking to ethylene technology in the Middle East, China's existing naphtha cracking to ethylene units with an annual output of less than 300000 tons will be uncompetitive in the next few years. Therefore, based on the long-term perspective, Sinopec has been concentrating on the research of s-mto technology and adhering to the diversified ethylene manufacturing process and technology route. The 600000 T/a ethylene raw material route reconstruction project of Zhongyuan Petrochemical is only the first phase of the scale-up of s-mto technology industry. Sinopec will also launch the second phase of the project, which is planned to be built in Hebi Coal chemical industry base in Henan Province, which is rich in coal and water resources. Its construction scale is 1.8 million tons/year (based on methanol raw material) s-mto and downstream product supporting devices. At present, its prototype is Timken experimental machine extreme pressure function experiment phase II project, and the project feasibility study report has been completed
